E-commerce Operations Assistant

Part-time · Three half-days per week · Hackney

We’re looking for a reliable, thoughtful and organised person to join our small team at Straw London, taking responsibility for online order fulfilment, customer enquiries and stock organisation during their shifts.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys practical work, has great attention to detail and takes pride in making sure every order is carefully packed and beautifully presented. We’re looking for someone who can follow tasks through, keep clear records and help things run smoothly.

The Role

Each shift will combine packing and dispatch, customer-service emails and stock support. Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing packaging materials, care cards and wrapping supplies.

  • Picking and checking orders to ensure the correct products are sent.

  • Carefully wrapping and packing products to Straw’s presentation standards.

  • Preparing shipping labels and getting parcels ready for collection.

  • Responding to customer-service emails during your shifts, including order enquiries, delivery queries, returns.

  • Use an email flagging or traffic-light system to clearly show which enquiries are outstanding, in progress or complete.

  • Escalating issues requiring a manager’s decision and leaving a clear handover of anything outstanding between shifts.

  • Keeping stock and the packing area tidy, organised and well stocked.

  • Supporting regular stocktakes, checking incoming deliveries and flagging discrepancies or low supplies.

  • Weekly movement of stock between the office and shop, keeping an accurate record of transfers.

About You

We’d love to hear from someone who is:

  • Reliable and able to commit to three regular shifts each week.

  • Careful and methodical, with a good eye for detail.

  • Happy doing practical tasks, including packing, organising and moving stock.

  • Comfortable using email and learning order-processing and stock systems.

  • Able to work independently once trained and prioritise time-sensitive tasks.

  • A clear, considerate communicator who follows things through.

  • Interested in working as part of a small, friendly team.

  • Previous experience in packing, retail, customer service, stock handling or e-commerce would be useful, but isn’t essential. Training will be provided.

Hours

We’re offering three regular half-days per week, ideally on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with afternoons preferred. We’re open to discussing alternative regular days and start times for the right person.

This role could suit someone looking for regular part-time work alongside other commitments or their own creative practice.

There may be scope to increase to full days over time, depending on the needs of the business and your availability.

Location: Hackney
Pay: London Living Wage

Benefits

  • A 20% staff discount on most items.

  • Occasional complimentary products and samples to try.

  • Being part of a small, friendly team, with scope to take on more responsibility as the business grows.

  • The option to use a workspace at the office for your own work before or after your shift, by prior arrangement.
